Dear Friends and Prospective Students

 

Warmest greetings from your friend in Christ.

 

I can assure you that you are in the right place. We have been ordained by God to provide quality, affordable and accessible degree programs to Christians globally with an earnest desire to better serve Him and His flock.

 

Whatever the goal that He planted within you, it is our desire to assist you on that path. There is a need for qualified and knowledgeable servants in His Kingdom, and as an adult learner and using our distance learning methods, you can achieve those goals. Our materials are geared to support you in your daily service and to give you the background needed to build your confidence to face the challenges that this world will offer you.

 

 

 

We have had students who are looking to earn a degree quickly. Although we are designed so that you may progress at your own pace, please examine your motives for considering UCBU. Students who want to progress rapidly may become disappointed when they find out that the rigor involved in completing the course work is demanding. One day I personally hope to hear the words “Well done good and faithful servant.” It is my job to make sure we keep on the high and narrow path.

 

Our online programs are designed for distance learning, and no residency requirements exist in order for you to earn your degree. Every student is assigned a mentor who will guide them through their program. However, the student should not need to lean too heavily on their mentor. Our studies are course driven, not instructor driven. The adult learner should be able to motivate themselves through the material. At this point, we all must be honest with ourselves. Some students may thrive better in the classroom environment rather than independent study. Most students do just fine, however. The fact is, the founders of UCBU, and our mentors are all life-long learners and understand completely what you will be going through. This is our niche.

 

Having said this, I know that there is going to be an element of anxiety involved as you start your program. It may be how am I going to start. It may be, “Where will I find the time?” “How can I afford this?” All I can say is “don’t second guess God.” Too many students have earned their degrees before you. You can do it! So, don’t ever give up! The secret is to do a little study each day. Just tell yourself that you will do fifteen minutes of study after the kids go to bed. Just get started. At fifteen minutes you can decide to go a little longer or stop for the evening. But, you will have done something!

 

Please don’t let the fact that we are an independent school, and non denomination, cause you any concern. We are Bible oriented and we have students from all denominations represented. Over sixty percent of our students are already in the ministry. Many students receive reimbursement from their churches or places of employment for attending UNITED CHRISTIAN BIBLE UNIVERSITY.

OUR ROLE AT UNITED CHRISTIAN BIBLE UNIVERSITY.

 

Our role is to bring sound theological education and ministerial training to people who cannot attend a centralized higher education institution. We do so for individual distance education students or by working with the local churches as a local church Bible College.

 

But, more profoundly, while we admire and endorse the efforts of traditional Bible Colleges and Seminaries, we are deeply committed to the concept of training people within the walls of their own local church and the provision of excellent teaching material and study options for Christians everywhere. We treat the entire local church environment as part of our educational activity: its worship, its witness, its fellowship, its teaching, its ministry – are all reckoned to be part of the training process of equipping men and women to serve Christ.

 

Our function is to add a theological and academic resource that few churches can viably provide while leaving the practical training in ministry to the local pastor. Underlying the way in which we present our materials and the kinds of assessment we employ, there is an educational philosophy based upon the following principles –

 

Christian education must stand upon a strong theological foundation (cp. the injunctions and warnings about “sound doctrine” in 1 Timothy 1:10; 4:13; 2

Timothy 4:3; 2 Peter 2:1-3; Jeremiah 6:16; 1 Corinthians 3:10-13; etc.).

Students must be brought to know God, not just to learn about him, and the curriculum must be consciously structured to achieve that excellent end. The goal must be to impart knowledge and teach principles of sound interpretation, showing people how to do their own research and how to apply truth to life. A final goal is the ultimate activation of men and women into effective Christian service wherever that may be.

BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL STUDIES

 

The purpose of united Christian Bible University is to familiarize students with the content and concepts of the Bible, the appropriate methodologies for the interpretation and the application of biblical teaching. Students are taught to use research tools which will aide independent study of biblical texts and topics. For career purposes, the major may be used as a terminal degree, preparing students for employment in a local church by achieving a level of biblical literacy that will enable them to be active in church leadership and teaching ministries.

 

Students are trained in basic biblical and theological knowledge. They are encouraged to develop skills that enable them to take into account the original linguistic, literary, historical, and cultural contexts of the Bible. Students are thereby enabled to consider critically religious traditions, beliefs, and practice in order to bring them into conformity with biblical revelation and to evaluate all of life and thought from the perspective of biblical principles.

 

The ultimate goal of Theological Studies is to ensure that the church’s proclamation and the individual’s life is faithful to God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture. Students with good theological training will know how to evaluate critically their own personal theological leaning, be aware and respectful of

other theological positions, and be able to distinguish those values that are distinctly Christian from those that the secular world espouses

 

These objectives are attained through the academic processes which enable students to formulate a constructive, personal stance of Christian faith, to become aware of how culture affected biblical revelation                                      .

 

INTERNSHIP

 

The internship, normally taken immediately prior to the final year of seminary study, is required of all B.Div. And B.Th. candidates. The internship program is administered by the Director of Internship at the University.

 

THESIS OPTION

 

There is also the option of doing a thesis as part of this degree. For those students who demonstrate sufficient academic success, we encourage you to pursue the thesis option in conjunction with a specialty. The thesis allows you to take a particular agreed-upon topic and, by working with an academic mentor, undertake your own research into this subject area.

                                        CONFESSION OF OUR FAITH

 

The sole basis of our beliefs is the Bible, God's infallible written Word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe that it was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and that it was written without error (inerrant) in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters on which it speaks.

 

We accept those areas of doctrinal teaching on which, historically, there has been general agreement among all true Christians. Because of the specialization of our calling, we desire to allow for freedom of conviction on other doctrinal

matters, provided that any interpretation is based upon the Bible alone.

 

1.                         There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality.

 

2.                          Jesus Christ is God, the living Word, who became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. Hence, He is perfect Deity and true humanity united in one person forever.

 

3.                         He lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for the sins of men by dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone.

 

4.                         He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He lived and died.

5.                         He ascended bodily into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God the Father, where He, the only mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for His own.

 

6.                         Man was originally created in the image of God. He sinned by disobeying God; thus, he was alienated from his Creator. That historic fall brought all mankind under divine condemnation.

 

7.                         Man's nature is corrupted, and he is thus totally unable to please God. Every man is in need of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

 

8.                         The salvation of man is wholly a work of God's free grace and is not the work, in whole or in part, of human works or goodness or religious ceremony. God imputes His righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation, and thereby justified them in His sight.

9.                          It is the privilege of all who are born again of the Spirit to be assured of their salvation from the very moment in which they trust Christ as their Savior. This assurance is not based upon any kind of human merit, but is produced by the witness of the Holy Spirit, who confirms in the believer the testimony of

God in His written word.

 

10.                      The Holy Spirit has come into the world to reveal and glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to men. He convicts and draws sinners to Christ, imparts new life to them, continually indwells them from the moment of spiritual birth and seals them until the day of redemption. His fullness, power and control are appropriated in the believer's life by faith.

 

11.                      Every believer is called to live so in the power of the indwelling Spirit that he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of God.

 

12.                      Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, His Body, which is composed of the living and dead, those who have been joined to Him through saving faith.

 

13.                      God admonishes His people to assemble together regularly for worship, for participation in ordinances, for edification through the Scriptures and for mutual encouragement.

 

14.                      At physical death the believer enters immediately into eternal, conscious fellowship with the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body to everlasting glory and blessing.

 

15.                      Jesus Christ will come again to the earth - personally, visibly and bodily

- to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.
